He has studied with various instructors from adolescence to adulthood, including teachers Scotty Mac, Tony Sano, Jim Wilson, jazz guitarist Jack Fragomeni, and classical guitarist Sten Isachsen. Andrew received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Saint Rose in 2000, with a major in History/Political Science and a concentration in Music. In May 2008 Andrew received his Master of Arts in History from the University at Albany.

Andrew has been playing blues and rock for 10 years, and has a working knowledge of jazz and classical music. His main influences have been B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and Eric Clapton. Andrew performed in many public and private venues from Nashville, TN to Woodstock, NY in such bands as Wheelhouse Blues; Midnight Blues; Hard to Handle; Rocky’s Potion; and currently performs with Crookedtoe and the Denny Mercury Blues Band. He also played in the College of St. Rose’s Classical Guitar Ensemble from 1999-2000. Andrew released a self-titled debut CD in 2002 titled “Drew Wheeler: Lonely Life”, and performed on Bryan Cady’s self-titled Nashville sessions.

Andrew believes in blending textbook knowledge of guitar and music theory with the passion for playing. Theory and fun must be experienced together! To Andrew, guitar is not just an instrument to master, it is the gateway to a lifetime of musical experiences.
