Lisa Nielson
Strings, Early Music

Lisa Nielson received her Bachelors in Music, Cello Performance from the University of Maine, where she studied cello with Diane Harrington Roscetti. She then went on to earn a Masters in Cello Performance and Pedagogy at Northern Illinois University, where she studied with Marc Johnson of the Vermeer Quartet and began her study of Baroque performance practice with Dr. Robert Green. Nielson then attended the University of Washington in Seattle, where she worked towards a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Early Music performance practice and viola da gamba with Margriet Tindemans. She left Seattle in 1997 and settled in Albany, NY, where she freelanced on cello and violas da gamba, and formed the Spiral Duo with guitarist William Simcoe. Nielson holds a PhD in Historical Musicology from the University of Maine at Orono. In addition to experience teaching private students ranging in age from 6 to 40, she has also taught music appreciation, string pedagogy and coached chamber music at the college level.
