Susan Gierthy
Assistant Director, Oboe, Woodwinds

Susan Gierthy is an enthusiastic and experienced oboist, music educator, double reed specialist, woodwind doubler, and reed maker.

Susan has been on faculty and has served as Assistant Director at the Cady School of Music since the fall of 2006. She teaches woodwind lessons, is available to teach masterclasses, has taught the college preparatory class, and assists with administrative tasks.

Susan currently teaches in the South Colonie School District at Lisha Kill Middle School. She directs the 5th grade and 6th grade bands, teaches woodwind lessons for 5th through 8th grades, and teaches 7th grade general music classes.

After earning her Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the State University of New York College at Fredonia, Susan worked in the Capital District as a band teacher from 2002 to 2004. Susan earned her Master of Music degree from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington in 2006. She is delighted to have returned to the Albany area and to serve at the Cady School.

Susan holds a Permanent New York State Public School Teacher Certificate in Music.
